I'm building an app that rates your fashion with AI. It's called Kootd. Users: 0. Let me be upfront about that.
Why I Built It
I saw things like AI face rating and animal lookalike tests blowing up and thought "something like this would be fun to build." But when I actually looked around, there was no app that checked what you're currently wearing. There were recommendation apps, but the criteria were unclear, and nothing that just told you whether your current outfit was good or not.
How It Works
Upload a photo, enter your desired style and occasion, and the AI rates it out of 100. It analyzes color harmony, trendiness, and occasion-appropriateness with actionable advice.
The community lets you get scores and feedback from other people. 100-point looks go into the hall of fame. You can share as Instagram-optimized images and dress up looks with stickers. Cream beige background with purple/gold accents — the images are auto-generated.
What I Learned
I used the ChatGPT API for fashion evaluation. Crafting prompts that consider not just color but trend relevance and occasion fit was trickier than expected. The auto-generated 1080x1080 Instagram share images also ate up a surprising amount of time.
Where Things Honestly Stand
Everything works. AI rating, community, Instagram sharing, sticker editing. But there are 0 users. I launched it but never put effort into marketing or user acquisition. I assumed if I just focused on building, people would show up. Obviously, they didn't.
What I Want to Do Next
I started with the ChatGPT API, but once data accumulates, I'd love to build a custom model specialized for fashion evaluation. The UI/UX also needs work — I did all the design myself, so there are rough spots.
What I really want is to open Google Analytics one day and see it buzzing with activity, and just grin. I'm also running YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and X channels — I should start using them more actively for promotion.
Still no users, but I can't give up. I'm still building.
